(LEOMINSTER, Mass., July 27, 2010) – Employees from IC Federal Credit Union volunteered at a “Christmas in July” event at the Veterans Center in Leominster on Thursday, July 22. Organized by American Family Link, Inc., the event was the culmination of a collection drive designed to send care packages to American service personnel on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan.
For the past several weeks, items that help make life easier for the troops – such as batteries, phone cards, sunscreen, shoe insoles, hand wipes, etc. – were donated by members of the public and IC’s staff at drop-off boxes located at IC Federal Credit Union’s branches. Credit union volunteers brought those donated items to the event and boxed them for shipment. While the campaign’s goal was to ship 200 packages, the generous donations easily exceeded that target.
“Participating in this drive was about more than simply sending care packages to our troops,” said Carolyn Perla, who led IC’s part of the project. “We also had the chance to welcome home some soldiers and talk with their family members. They all explained how much these gifts mean to our troops overseas. The entire experience was a chance for the community to come together to support our troops, their families and friends, and we’re thrilled it was such a huge success.”
On top of the donated goods, the employees of the credit union raised more than $700 through donations and funds generated from IC Cares “Jeans for Charity” program. That money will help deliver the care packages, which cost $10 each to ship.

At the Annual Meeting of IC Federal Credit Union, held on June 17, Kenneth V. Stone, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Directors, reviewed the institution’s strong financial earnings and ability to prosper in a difficult economy.
In reviewing the results of the past year, Stone reported that, in contrast to the tumultuous state of the financial industry, IC Federal Credit Union did not experience the losses and capital depletion felt by many of its peers. Though the economy resulted in more borrowers unable to make their payments, ICFCU’s delinquency and foreclosure rates stayed below that of its counterparts. This solid foundation was recognized by the local community, with the addition of 3,468 new members.
Stone reported asset growth of 7 percent, from $370 million to $395 million. Members opened 5,700 new checking, savings and CD accounts in 2009, totaling $34 million in new accounts. IC Federal Credit Union reported final net income of $4,365,789 for 2009, which included a one-time payment from industry regulators totaling $1.5 million. As a result, IC Federal Credit Union ended the year with a very healthy 9.08 percent net worth ratio, maintaining its status as a “well capitalized” credit union.
“We knew that this year would present challenges – but I am pleased to see that our dedication to sound lending has allowed us to weather this storm and actually produce very strong earnings,” said Tony Cali, President and CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. “We will continue to work with our Members to achieve their financial goals, while providing the community with a solid financial institution that they can rely on. I expect that 2010 will be another very good year for the credit union.”

A principal in the fundraising consulting firm Allen and Racine Associates, Sterling, MA, Allen has been serving on the Supervisory Committee of IC for the past 7 years. Federal Reserve rules taking effect on July 1st, 2010 will provide Debit and ATM card users more options for selecting the right overdraft coverage (also known as Extended Overdraft Protection) for their account. Overdraft protection is applied to a checking account 30 days after the opening and covers your transactions, for a fee, in the event that funds are not available at that time. The upcoming legislation requires checking account holders to choose or “opt in” to continue to have this protection for all ATM and everyday Debit Card Transactions.
Over the next few weeks our members will be receiving additional communication on this new regulation and instructions on how to maintain the coverage they presently have or to add this coverage to their checking account.
If you would like additional information regarding overdraft protection and all of IC’s options please feel free to contact us at info@iccreditunion.org or 1-800-262-1001 and ask for a Sales and Service Representative to help you with your questions.

Credit Union Awards $5,000 in Scholarship Money
College expenses have long been on the rise. Reports from the U.S. Department of Education show that the average student is in debt over $20,000 after completing their undergraduate degree. In an effort to counter balance these costs for local college students, IC Federal Credit Union recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to five high school students entering college this year.
To compete for the scholarships, applicants were required to write an essay detailing how they would help the community in which they live, what type of program they would endorse or create, and how they would spread the message throughout the community to promote this program. Applicants were also ranked based upon a combined score of grades, essay, and extracurricular activities.
In all, 43 entries were received and
the winners included: Abigail Capone, Fitchburg High School; Anthony DeCicco, Leominster High School; Christopher Greenlee, Oakmont Regional High School; Raymond Harrison, Leominster High School and Sandy Lor, Fitchburg High School.
“Higher education is an opportunity that we want every member of our community to have,” said Tony Cali, President and CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. “These students have all shown a dedication to their studies, their futures and their community, and that’s why we wanted to help make the financial aspect of college a little less burdensome.”
The contest was open to high school seniors who will be enrolled in an undergraduate college degree program during the 2010 – 2011 academic year. Applicants or parent/guardians were required to be a current IC Member.

IC Federal Credit Union raised $1,500 during the holidays to benefit the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network (MIHN). The funds, which will be used to help the area’s homeless families, were raised through the sale of the credit union’s second annual Holiday Cookbook.
“Our Holiday Cookbook seemed like an ideal way to raise money for MIHN's work with homeless families,” said Tony Cali, President & CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. “As a collection of recipes from our staff and Members, which is then sold to the public and friends of the credit union, the cookbook is a true "community" effort, which is why we felt the proceeds should benefit such a worthy, community focused cause.”
Since its inception, MIHN has housed 111 families, supplied more than 20,000 overnight beds, and returned 80 percent of their families to permanent housing. Their work is funded through contributions and volunteers from the community. Anyone interested in contributing should contact the MIHN offices at 978-840-9500.
Accepting the donation is (l to r) Claire Lincoln, MIHN Secretary, and Arthur Heusser, MIHN Network Director - presenting from IC is Tony Cali, President & CEO, and Judy Kaddy, Senior Vice President of Lending & Marketing.

MIHN is financed by contributions from individuals and local businesses, receive grants from philanthropic foundations and conduct fundraising activities.
Credit Union Donates to Computer Lab at Local Senior Citizens Center
At the Fitchburg Senior Center, many of the older adults enjoy taking the computer classes and, with three sessions offered each week, they are among the most popular classes. By learning how to send and receive emails, navigating the Internet, and other skills, these elders are able to exchange messages and photos with their family, and extend their own access to the world.
As with all computers, however, after several years, many of the machines at the Center were outdated and unable to run newer programs and applications. That’s when Stan Skamarycz, a courier, a member of IC Federal Credit Union, and a participant the Center’s computer class, brought the obsolete computers to the attention of Elaine Sigismondo, Senior Vice President of Information Technology at IC Federal Credit Union. Seeing the value these computers added to the quality of life for these older community members, the institution donated two new computers and monitors to the Computer Lab at the Fitchburg Senior Center.
“This is a perfect example of community helping community,” said Tony Cali, President & CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. “The mission of our credit union is to help our Members and our community – but that isn’t limited to financial matters. I am grateful to Stan for bringing this need to our attention, and I’m glad that we could make a difference for the seniors who visit the Center.”
The Fitchburg Senior Center is located at 14 Wallace Avenue in Fitchburg, and is open 8 AM-4 PM, Monday - Friday. Computer classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a beginner’s class is offered on Wednesdays, but pre-registration is required. For more information or to make a donation to the Center, call 978-345-9598.

IC Federal Credit Union is proud to donate $1,000.00 to the Twin Cities Community Development Corporation (CDC) of the Fitchburg and Leominster area. For the past twenty-six years, the CDC has set forth its philosophy below by working in partnership with community residents, city government, and local financial institutions to revitalize distressed neighborhoods in Fitchburg and Leominster. Accepting the donation is Executive Director, Marc Dohan and presenting is Judy Kaddy, Senior Vice President of Lending & Marketing for IC.
The CDS’s newest focus is to move forward on a plan to revitalize one of North Central Massachusetts more troubled neighborhoods, the areas north of Main Street in downtown Fitchburg. Our plan combines the efforts of many CDC departments -- Community Organizing, Economic Development, Housing Development, and Homeownership - to generate a renewed sense of pride and ownership in the neighborhood, in the downtown business district, and in Fitchburg.
"Building Foundations for Powerful Communities"
Our Mission: The Twin Cities Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a membership organization led by the diverse resident and business communities of Fitchburg and Leominster. Credit Union Pledges $5,000 Towards Local Food and Heating Assistance Program
In response to a strong increase in local need, IC Federal Credit Union recently donated $5,000 to United Way of North Central Massachusetts as part of the organization’s ‘Safety Net’ initiative, which provides emergency funding for food and fuel assistance.
“Since its founding, our credit union has had an active commitment to the community,” said Tony Cali, President and CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. “When there are so many people in need, we have a responsibility to help our neighbors. Partnering with the United Way guarantees that those people will receive the help they need.”
United Way of North Central Massachusetts recently found that local non-profit agencies are struggling to keep up with the growing demand for food and fuel assistance. In fact, one organization reported a 40% increase in demand from last year, stating that this was the first time in their history that they will have to use emergency funds to replenish their food pantry. In addition to donations by local businesses and charities, United Way will provide $60,000 in emergency funding for food cards, food pantries and fuel. As a long-time business supporter of the organization, IC Federal Credit Union immediately answered the call.
Individuals who would like to get involved can call 978-345-1577 or visit www.uwncm.org.
Employees of IC really got into the spirit as they celebrated the 1960's at this year's Holiday party. Attendees were invited to dress in groovy 60's themed costumes, and were entertained by Beatles For Sale, a Beatles tribute band.
In addition, employee recognition awards were given out for 5 and 10 years of service with the company.
Thank you to all of our wonderful employees for a fantastic celebration!

Congratulations to the blood donors who entered to win a free raffle sponsored by IC Federal Credit Union. $550 in Visa Gift Cards was given away at the American Red Cross Blood Drive on Tuesday, November 10th at the Leominster Lodge of Elks. First prize was $300, second $150, and third $100. IC has been a blood drive sponsor for the American Red Cross since 2007. We sponsor two drives a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. IC has given away gift cards to local malls, hardware stores and garden centers. The Visa Gift Card this year is just in time for Holiday shopping. There were 59 donors this fall, with the expectation of receiving 57 good units which one unit helps up to three hospital patients. Thank you to our volunteers, but we most especially want to thank you, the blood donors. Without your help, the American Red Cross couldn't complete it's mission.

This year, Fitchburg State has partnered with local banking provider, IC Federal Credit Union to host one of the most elite pre-season hockey tournaments this fall. Mike & Joanne McGuirk were very thankful to have the opportunity to have their cat Annie microchipped.
Michelle Bianco, DVM, gave us a quick tour of her mobile unit.
IC was proud to offer this service – At IC, we care about your pet!

IC employees had a great time participating in the 250th Anniversary Celebration Parade on Sunday, September 27. IC had 5 wonderful mascot’s dancing, waving and bringing smiles to faces young and old! Other members of the IC Team handed out ice cream to all the kids while others carried the IC Banner. Though the weather was a little dismal, that didn’t keep the good folks of Westminster away! Thank you to everyone who participated and enjoyed the parade! Congratulations Westminster!

We have been made aware of a text messaging scam that is being perpetrated in our area. It involves individuals receiving a text message that their ATM card has been deactivated, requiring them to call a specific telephone number and provide their card number and Personal Identification Number (PIN) in order to have the card re-activated.
Although IC Federal Credit Union has not been directly involved in this scam at this point in time, we want our Members to be aware of this situation and reiterate that you will never be contacted by us or any financial institution in this manner and that you should never provide your PIN to anyone.
If you have any questions or concerns on this matter, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-262-1001.
IC Federal Credit Union participated in the Johnny Appleseed Festival in Leominster, Massachusetts on Saturday, September 12th.
IC held a free raffle for two $100 U.S. Savings bonds, gave away promotional items, and temporary tattoos for the kids.
Even though the weather was rainy, it didn’t stop the people in the community to come out and show their support to the many non-profit organizations who attended the fair. The fair was a great success and people managed to still enjoy the day despite the rain.
The winners of our free raffle are:

IC employees helping out at the festival!
We had several employees that volunteered for the United Way's Day of Caring on September 10. Our employee's cleaned up's at local churches, weeded and raked at a local healing garden- and as you can see from the photo at right of IC President, Anthony Cali, unloaded food for a local food pantry.
The weather was great and it was so wonderful to see so many people helping out to make difference in the community. Click on the photos to view a larger version.

IC Federal Credit Union helped fund signs and walking tour outlook point at the Steam Line Trail located along the Nashua River in Fitchburg. Life Scout, Benjamin Lessard of Troop 41 Fitchburg came to IC with the request back in October of 2008. He has worked very hard in making this piece of history for the Steam Line Trail a reality. “Previously, when you went to the Steam Line Trail, there was no information on the history of this area or the large steam pipes that run along the trail. My project created a self-guided walking tour about the history of the power plant, the steam pipes, paper making and the Nashua River to help educate trail visitors about this part of Fitchburg’s history,” said Ben.
Pictured at right is Benjamin Lessard, Fitchburg with Tony Cali, President & CEO. Congratulations Ben on this great endeavor – yes, the change you made at the Steam Line Trail will make the park more interesting for all who visit – thank you Ben for your hard work and for making this addition for the sake of Fitchburg’s history!
The 16th Annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life took place at Mount Wachusett Community College on June 12 – June 13, 2009. This is the number one Cancer fundraiser in New England.
The Relay celebrates survivorship and raises money to help The American Cancer Society in its mission to save lives. During the event, each team keeps at least one member on the track at all times during the 24 hour event. IC Credit Union had the big white tent set up for all team members and friends to visit. The grill was cooking until sunset when the luminary bags were lit for the night walkers. Hourly events, food, raffles, music, and special events kept the event fun and interesting.
The IC team consisted of about 50 volunteer walkers that include employees, members, family and friends of IC. This is the third year that IC Credit Union has had a team to support the Relay. The final numbers are not in yet, but the estimates are about $5,000 for this year’s fundraising efforts. Totals from the IC team for the last three years are over $17,000 raised for Cancer support and research.
Participating in the Survivor Lap is Sherry Sacramone, H/R Manager (middle left), and Debbie Richards (center right), wife of Phil Richards, SVP of Retail.
Part of the IC Team assembles in front of our tent for a picture (left); Bruce Mathieu, VP of Consumer Lending keeps the grill going for all the hungry walkers!
